Princess Hours

Princess Hours MV - Destiny

Princess Hours (Korean: 궁, Hanja: 宫, romanized as Goong) is a South Korean television drama series based on the manhwa Goong by Park So-Hee. It was broadcast from January 11 to March 30, 2006 on MBC and stars Yoon Eun Hye, Joo Ji Hoon, Kim Jeong Hoon and Song Ji-hyo. The US DVD release by YA Entertainment uses the title Palace.

Princess Hours was one of MBC's most popular dramas of 2006, second only to Jumong.Overall, the show was the tenth most popular drama of 2006, according to TNS Media. Due to the success of the first season, a second season was to be produced. However, it will no longer be produced due to the withdrawal of two main actors. A spin-off series, Goong S, was broadcast on January 10, 2007.

Set in an alternate 21st-century reality where Korea possesses a royal family, since 1945 to present, this show revolves around the lives of the Crown Prince Lee Shin, and his new bride, Chae-kyeong.

The series starts off with the news that the King, Shin's father, is very ill. With the grim outlook on the King's health, the royal family scrambles to find a wife for Shin, so as to allow him to take over the royal throne if the situation requires. Despite being in love with another girl, the ambitious and talented ballerina Hyo-rin whom Shin initially proposed to (she rejects him to pursue her ballet dreams), Shin eventually marries a commoner to whom he was betrothed by his late grandfather in an old agreement with the girl's grandfather. Shin marries the headstrong yet lovable Chae-kyeong after Hyo-rin's rejection. Despite initially feeling nothing for Chae-kyeong, love eventually blossoms between the couple as time passes.

In the meantime, however, matters are further complicated with the return of Lee Yul and his mother Lady Hwa-Young, who was once the Crown Princess before the death of her husband, the late Crown Prince, older brother of the current King. Yul and his mother were chased out of the palace some time after the death of his father, and it is later revealed that this was due to the King's discovery of an affair between Yul's mother and the current King who was his father's younger brother. Yul's mother had returned with a sinister motive in mind; to restore her son back to the throne, which would have been his eventually, if his father had not died. A series of events befall the palace with the schemes Yul's mother carries out, and is further intensified by the various scandals involving the royal family, which are inclusive of the Shin's continuing relationship with his old flame Hyo-rin, and the budding love Yul develops for Chae-kyeong, his cousin's new-found bride. Things get out of hand and many incidents happen.

Shin visits Thailand. Hyo-rin meets him there and asks him to take her to the airport, setting him up for a date.

Shin Chae-kyeong is a very creative and outgoing, normal high school girl. She attends the same school as Lee Shin, the Crown Prince of Korea. Her grandfather was best friends with the previous king. To honor his friend, the previous king dictated that Chae-kyeong is to become the Crown Princess, which means that she is to marry whoever is the Crown Prince at the time of the marriage (Lee Shin). Although she often seems immature and irritating, she is a kindhearted, innocent, honest person. Often called "Pig" by her younger brother, Chae-kyeong marries the prince because of the promise made between her grandfather and Shin's. Her initial reaction to Lee Shin is one of irritation but she falls in love with him in the earlier part of the series, not knowing that he, in return, feels the same way, until the last few episodes. Although she regards Lee Yul only as a friend and cousin-in-law, he falls in love with her.

Joo Ji Hoon as Lee Shin (Template:Lng)

The crown prince of Korea, Lee Shin, is seen as a smug, indifferent, insensitive young man. After getting rejected by his girlfriend when he proposes to her, he decides to go along with his elders' arranged marriage with Shin Chae-kyeong. At first, he was irritated by her naivete and enthusiasm, but as he recognizes how genuinely sweet she is, he begins to open his heart to her, and falls in love. Throughout the series, it becomes obvious that inside, he is just a lonely, sensitive, warm and kind young man. He also owns a teddy bear, Alfred, the only thing that he can let his guard down for, which is used as a focal point throughout the series. As his cousin re-enters the picture after being forced out of the country many years earlier, the prince quickly butts head with him, as Lee Yul is a contender not only for the throne, but for the crown princess Chae-kyeong's love. Chae-kyeong does not realize this until later on in the story.

Kim Jeong Hoon (김정훈), as Eui-Sung Yul

Yul left Korea at the age of 5. He "was supposed to be the crown prince", but his father passed away in a car accident and he and his mom were kicked out of the palace. He was the one who was supposed to marry Chae-Kyeong, but because of this accident he couldn't. He has a crush on Chae-Kyeong and he tried to tell her that he is her fiancé, but she couldn't understand. His mom is getting revenge for him. He is also best friends with Prince Willam; that made them call each other "bros"

Shim Hye-jin (심혜진), as Lady Hwa-Yong (Yul's mother)

After being kicked out of the palace. she and her son Yul go to England. Years later she returns with a sinister plan to get back the throne. She uses Hyo-Rin to cause prince Shin and Chae-Kyeoung to divorce. She causes chaos by releasing photos to the press of Hyo-rin and Shin in Thailand on a date. She also tells the press that Shin punched Yul. So people will start to doubt him of being capable of running the kingdom.

New Stuff and A Knoxville Weekend

Happy Tuesday Everyone!  Hope you’re having a great morning so far.

I just got back from a lovely sunrise run with Bex and Kristi.  We did 4 miles fairly easy.IMG_3900

Nice way to start the day. :)

Now I am having a smoothie, and watching Today Show while writing this post.  My smoothie today is MUCH better than the last one I made!  I have figured out, I think, that the key to a good smoothie is cold ingredients.  You have to have frozen or really cold stuff to have a good smoothie, in my opinion.

IMG_3899

This time I used:

  • Frozen Banana-lama-ding-dong
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Handful of fresh spinach
  • Milk
  • 1 packet sugar-free hot chocolate mix (<---need to buy some choc. protein powder instead!)

IMG_3911  This was kind of an exciting run because I had a bunch of new stuff to try out.  Don’t you love running or exercising when you have new stuff?  New stuff gets me all kinds of excited.

New #1:  First new thing I wanted to share…..is….well, not really very ‘new’ anymore.  I got these shoes at the Nike outlet when Mom and I stopped at the Foley outlets on the way to the beach

These are the Nike Vomero 5.  I have no idea what that means.  I just tried on a bunch of different pairs at the outlet, and thought these looked and felt the best.  Now that I wear them regularly, they are a little more *white* than I normally like, but they feel great so I’ll keep ‘em!

IMG_3901 Before I ran my first half-marathon in 2007, I got fitted for shoes at a nice running store in Nashville.  I have run in those same shoes ever since (not that exact pair, obviously, but I would just buy the same make and model over and over).  So now, about 5 years later, I decided to switch it up.

While I like these shoes, I think I’d like to go get fitted again.  It is high time, after all, and I’m sure over the past 5 years my running style has changed a little.  I know for a fact I am a little fast, and about 2o pounds lighter than when I was fitted last.

New #2:  I also got new shorts!  I LOVE new shorts.

IMG_3903 Nike Tempos, what else.  I got these at Hibbett Sports, on sale.  They were 20% off, plus I had a $10 off coupon.  Love it when that happens!  I love the crazy colors.

New #3:  An Audiobook for my iPod (<--super nerd alert)!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just finished reading The Hunger Games (<--another nerd alert) and wanted to read the second book in the series.  Have yall read The Hunger Games Trilogy?  I have to say that Suzanne Collins is the biggest weirdo in the world.  Who thinks of stuff like this????  Weird as it is, I couldn’t put it down, so needed to read the second book, Catching Fire.

IMG_3905 I listened to the first couple of chapters on my run this morning and really liked running while listening to a book!  It was a change, that’s for sure, from the music I usually listen to.  Kind of gives you a totally different vibe as you run.

I wasn’t running for time, so I don’t necessarily need something super-inspiring to listen to.  This was a great way to pass the time, and made my run go by quickly.

New #4:  I have been in DYER need for new headphones.  I always buy cheap (like $10-$15) headphones and always wind up hating them.  They get sweaty and fall out, making me constantly fiddle with them for the entire second half of my run.  Annoying.

I had read great things about Yurbuds.  Do yall know the Yurbuds?

IMG_3907 They were invented by an Ironman athlete, and claim to fit perfectly into your ear, not fall out, and give great comfort and sound quality.

Although I only used them for about 40 minutes this morning, I can say they held up to those claims.  They were comfortable and didn’t move or slip out at all during my run this morning.

IMG_3908 They aren’t cheap, though.  I got them at Best Buy for $49.99.  My mom actually bought them for me while she was here visiting over the weekend….we’re calling it an early birthday present!

Fifty bucks is definitely more than I’d like to spend on headphones, but like I said, I have probably bought 7 or 8 pairs of cheap ones over the years, all of which I have thrown away eventually.  So, better to just buy one high-quality pair rather than a million cheap-o pairs!

IMG_3909 Here’s the box in case you want to check them out at your local Best Buy!

IMG_3910  So, all my new fun stuff this morning, made for a very exciting run. :)

Still playing some catch up, I wanted to document a recent trip to my home town, Knoxville!

A week after I got back from the beach, Tom and I headed to Nashville to spend the night with my good friend Kathleen.  Early Friday morning, we finished the trip to Knoxville, to spend the afternoon at my dad’s lake house in Lenoir City.

It is such a beautiful place, I LOVE visiting here!IMG_3717

When I was a teenager, my dad bought this lot on the lake with about 200 feet on the water, and an old falling-down house!  Over the years he has worked hard and fixed it up, little by little.IMG_3711

The dock and boathouse are the spot to hang out and enjoy the view and good company!

IMG_3716

I wanted to bring my dad and Louise something cute for the dock, so I made these fun pillows!IMG_3700

I stenciled the ‘Lake’ and the anchor on them using the method I talked about in this post.  I had some cute blue & white, as well as red & white fabric I used.  I thought the red, white, and blue was kind of lake-house-ish and nautical.  IMG_3702

IMG_3697 The solid canvas fabric that the designs are painted on, is painter’s drop cloth fabric.  Can’t beat the price, and it looks great!

IMG_3699   I think this red and white design is cute and whimsical.  I think I got it at Hancock’s.

IMG_3703 We relaxed on the dock that afternoon, and Dad and Louise came down from their house in town (about 30 minutes away) to go to dinner on the boat.

IMG_3705 IMG_3706 We went to our favorite place…Calhoun’s.  All East Tennessee natives (or anywhere in Tennessee, really!) will know where I’m talking about!

IMG_3707 IMG_3708 It was fun…good food, and fun catching up with Dad and Weez.

IMG_3710    Tom and I spent the night at the lake house, and came back into Knoxville on Saturday.  We were co-hosting a party in honor of my lifelong friend, Sarah, who got married and had a baby this  year!  They had a small, family-only wedding, so we threw her a party in Knoxville so we could celebrate with old friends!

Me and Tom….Tom very politely let me know he though I was ‘too tan.’ Pshhhh….as if that’s possible.

IMG_3719 Me and Julia…another friend I’ve had since childhood (<---and I need to give Julia credit for these photos, as I stole them off of her facebook page)!

IMG_3720 Some of the girls!  That’s Sarah in the middle, and Liz to her right is holding baby Cannon.

IMG_3721 More cute girls!

IMG_3722 Beth and Sarah…oh, the stories I have from high school with these two girls!

IMG_3723 I promise there were more boys there…I just realized I didn’t post any pics of the guys!

On Sunday after church, I went over to Julia’s house for a baby shower in honor of our good friend Libby.  Libby is in the picture below, on my left in the beige dress.

IMG_3724 Taylor is due to arrive around September 30!

IMG_3725 Libby looks so cute and pregs.  I gave her that sweet JJ gown in the picture below.

IMG_3726

On Sunday night, Tom and I went over to my mom’s to have dinner with her family.  Unfortunately I didn’t snap any pictures because I was too busy talking.  :(  Typical.

It was a really fun weekend with friends and family!  I’m so glad I could go home to Knoxville and see so many old friends.

Have a great week everyone!

Super Junior

Super Junior(슈퍼주니어) _ BONAMANA(미인아) _ MusicVideo

Super Junior (Korean: 슈퍼주니어 Japanese: スーパージュニア), often referred to as SJ or SuJu (슈주), is a popular boy band from South Korea formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2005. The group debuted with 12 members: Leeteuk (Leader), Heechul, Han Geng, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kibum and later added a 13th member named Kyuhyun; they are one of the largest boy bands in the world. As of 2010, 10 members are active, due to Han Geng's lawsuit with SM Entertainment which led to him leaving the group (now pursuing his own singing career in the Mandarin-Pop entertainment industry), Kangin's temporary leave of absence for mandatory military service and Kibum's pursuit of an acting career. However, the other members have insisted that the three (Kangin, Kibum and Han Geng) are still part of the group, the group also mentioned that they are saddened by Han Geng's departure from the group.

Super Junior has released and contributed in 20 different kinds of records with varying degrees of success.Over the years, they have been divided into smaller sub groups, simultaneously targeting different music industries and audiences. Largely due to Super Junior's success as entertainers, other Korean entertainment managements began to train their music groups in other areas of entertainment, such as acting and hosting. In addition to their commercial success, Super Junior has earned seven music awards from the M.net Asian Music Awards, eleven from the Golden Disk Awards, and is the second singing group to win Favorite Artist Korea at the 2008 MTV Asia Awards after JTL in 2003.

In 2001, the company held their first overseas casting auditions and discovered Han Geng in Beijing, China, who was chosen from among three thousand applicants. That same year, Yesung was discovered under Seoul's casting system. Sungmin and Donghae became trainees after jointly winning the first place in Best Outward Appearance in an SM-sponsored contest. In 2002, Heechul and Kangin were recruited along with Kibum, who was discovered in Los Angeles. Siwon was recruited in 2003 after being scouted at 16 in front of his high school, and Ryeowook in 2004, in which the latter was discovered through the Chin Chin Youth Festival singing competition. In 2005, Shindong was selected. The last member, Cho Kyuhyun, was then discovered after winning third place at the Chin Chin Singing Competition in 2005.

Not long after boy band TVXQ's debut in 2003, news about Lee's unprecedented plans of forming another boy band quickly spread on the Internet. In early 2005, Lee confirmed the news and announced that an all-boy project group of twelve members would debut near the end of the year, promoting this singing group to be "The Gateway to Stardom of Asia."Lee announced that that most members in this group were chosen because of their performing experiences as actors, MCs, models, and radio hosts prior debut. Heechul and Kibum were already established entertainers, and most of the other members had already made various kinds of appearances on television and media.Highly inspired by the rotational concept of Japan's girl group Morning Musume, this group would also experience line-up changes, with new members replacing some selected members every year to keep the group constantly young and all-rounded. This concept was then newly introduced to the K-pop market.

For a while the group was rumored to be called O.V.E.R, the acronym for "Obey the Voice for Each Rhythm." However, before the group settled with their current name, SM simply referred to them as Junior, a representation of the members' young ages when they first became SM trainees. After the members' showcased their different talents to the company at a picnic, the company finalized their concept name to Super Junior. The group thereafter became officially Super Junior 05, the first generation of Super Junior.Leeteuk said on Star Golden Bell "at first Super Junior name was SM Junior, but after Lee Soo Man see our performance and he say we have super talent and quickly change our name to Super Junior"

Super Junior 05 made their pre-debut on the Korean channel Mnet on September 11, 2005. At the showcase, they performed various styles of hip hop dancing. The group danced to B2K's "Take It To The Floor." Han Geng, Eunhyuk, and Donghae also performed a separate dance away from the group, dancing to Usher's "Caught Up." However, the performance did not air on television until May 16, 2006 as a segment in the Super Junior Show, the group's first television documentary.

Super Junior 05 debuted on SBS's music program Popular Song on November 6, 2005, performing their first single, "TWINS (Knock Out)." A digital single with "TWINS (Knock Out)", "You are the one", and three additional tracks were released online on November 8. A physical CD single was scheduled to be released the following week but a more complete album, SuperJunior05 (TWINS), was released on December 6, 2005 instead. Their debut album sold 28,536 copies in the first month of release and debuted at #3 in the monthly chart of December 2005.In that same month, they released "Show Me Your Love," a collaboration single with TVXQ. "Show Me Your Love" became the best-selling record of December 2005, selling 49,945 copies that month.

In February 2006, Super Junior 05 began performances for "Miracle", the second promotional single from their debut album. "Miracle" was the group's first single to peak #1 in online music charts of South Korea as well as the music charts of Thailand, drawing interest from international markets. As promotions for "Miracle" came to an end, SM Entertainment began selecting new members for Super Junior's second line-up project, Super Junior 06. The company even prepared a list of chosen members that were to graduate from the group. However, no members were taken out and a thirteenth member was added instead in May 2006. The line-up project has been abandoned since then, and the group became known as just Super Junior, without the suffix "05"
